This is true Christianity
The apostle Peter ends this letter by saying that what he has described is true Christianity. The believers were suffering and were like strangers and pilgrims in the world. They were suffering then as they do today. Perhaps the question enters the mind of someone who is suffering, “Is this real Christianity? If God loves me and Christ died for me, why am I suffering in this way?” Peter is clear and simple in describing what a Christian is and what a Christian is like.
Others suffer in ways some of us will never know. Yet, we must all recognize that we are strangers in this world. We do not belong here. This world is not my home. We are pilgrims. We do belong somewhere. We’re just a passing through. Those are the words of an old song. What does Peter have to say to us?
